Momma Told Me There'd Be Days Like This
Ohhhh, the Holidays are here, and the excuses are coming right with them.
Family visiting, work parties, friends’ parties, neighborhood parties, etc. The list goes on and on.
The Holidays take a lot of work to keep up with your health and fitness goals.
You will sometimes slip up and get off track with your goals. The truth is, it happens frequently. The trick is you have to get right back at it.
It’s no different than falling off a horse. If you get back on right away, it will be easy for you to get back on. If not, you may never ride again.
We’re not perfect. Yes, consistency is the key to success, but we’re not going to be perfect.
You’re going to have slip-ups. Whether it’s a weekend, a week, or longer, the important thing is that you get back on track quickly. The longer you stay off your rhythm, the harder it is to get back on track.
Keys to getting back at it:
Start Now!
Not at lunch, dinner, or tomorrow, and definitely don’t wait until Monday. There’s no magic time to start, but if there was, it’s right now. The longer you put it off, the harder it is.
This morning you can start your first workout. Even if it’s something small. Just do 50 pushups.
Start by having a healthy breakfast. Avocado and toast with a couple hardboiled eggs.
Don’t play catch-up
Going cold turkey on sweets and alcohol doesn’t make up for the lost time. It’s just going to make it harder to get back on track.
The beginning efforts don’t have to be something monumental. We’re just trying to get the train back on the tracks.
Depending on how long you’ve been off your routine, your body may not be ready to pick up where you left off. If you overdo it at first, you’ll set yourself up for another relapse.
The alcohol flows during the Holidays:
You can have your cheat days but keep them from running into your non-cheat days.
If they do, cut out one of your weekend cheats. A lot is going on this time of year. If you let it slip during the week, make sure you make up for it on the weekend.
It’s best if you can cut alcohol altogether. It’s unwanted calories, you end up eating junk
when you’re drunk, a hangover isn’t the best motivation for a workout, and it’s just not good for you.
I get it. It’s the Holidays. Drink up and have fun. Just keep it under control.
Get back to a good sleep schedule as soon as possible:
Your body needs time to relax and recover.
It’s also important to have a regular schedule. That’s a big piece of the consistency struggle.
Don’t beat yourself up. It happens…to all of us. Get back at it and start crushing it again.
Get out there and be somebody!
